Synopsis:
Her…
Sloane Locke has led a sheltered life. However, with a history like hers, she can understand why her brothers and her father want so much to protect her. She has gone along with it for twenty long years, but those days are over. For the girl who never makes promises, Sloane has made a pact with herself that things will change on her twenty-first birthday. So when the clock strikes midnight, Sloane strikes out to spread her wings and break a few rules.
Him…
In addition to inking skin, Hemi Spencer possesses many talents. Controlling himself has never been one of them. It’s never had to be. He’s lived a life of indulgence for as long as he can remember. Right up until tragedy struck. Now, he’s nothing but controlled. He’s a man on a mission, one who will let nothing and no one stand in his way.
Them…
Nothing in their lives could’ve prepared Sloane and Hemi for what they’d find in each other—distraction and obsession, love and possession. But the one thing they can’t find is a future. Neither one has been totally honest. And they’ll soon learn that the devil is in the details. In the details and in the lies.
How far will two people go to live in the now when the now is all they’ve got?
Review:
When I first started the book I was a little hesitant. You have Sloane, a 21 year old virgin who decides to finally let herself live, steps into a tattoo parlor only to meet Hemi, the tattoo hottie. I was really worried, afraid that it was going to be like so many others I’ve read, but I was definitely wrong.
I absolutely loved it! I adored Sloane. She was strong willed, trying to gain her independence from her overprotective cop brothers and cop father. She wanted to live life to the fullest, knowing all to well that moments aren’t guaranteed.
She meets Hemi, as she goes in for her first tattoo, her first act of independence. They have a connection, bonding over their love of art, and this intense chemistry.
“He smiles and, for a second, it’s like my soul connects with his in a way that transcends words.”
And Hemi. I absolutely loved Hemi and all his sexiness. He had a bit of that bad boy, take what he wants attitude. He’s hot and mysterious.
As you read each alternating POV from Sloane and Hemi you can tell that both are hiding something. They both have secrets that they can’t share, or aren’t willing to share with each other.
I loved the chemistry they both had. Their scenes together were nothing but hot. Hemi was so incredibly sexy. Things he would say to Sloane had me melting. He tried to stay away from her, tried to resist her, but the attraction was too much and he just couldn’t.
“I know I’ll hate myself for this tomorrow, but I have to have a taste of you, Sloane. I can’t deny myself for one minute. Let me show you what I was thinking when I saw you lying up there. Let me show you what it feels like when a man stops fighting.”
There were some exteremely sexy scenes in this book. Hemi is definitely a man who knows what he is doing and it was hot. How he spoke, his actions. And there is this sexy, steamy sauna scene that was insane. Hot Hot Hot.
As Sloane and Hemi get closer and closer, the truth start to come out. And it can tear any relationship that they had or hoped to have apart. Hemi’s secret leaves Sloane feeling used while Sloane’s secret makes Hemi realize how much Sloane means to him and how much he can’t live without her.
The story is a really wonderful one. I though it was well developed, touching and I won’t lie, I got a little emotional towards the end. The secrets that they were both hiding had me in knots, so afraid of the aftermath once they were out. M. Leighton took me through so many emotions in this book. I loved Hemi, I hated him, I felt sorry for him and I even rooted for him at times. I wanted them to have a happy ending so freaking bad.
I’ll go ahead and say you get an HEA. You also get an epilogue that’s sweet and made me smile. I would definitely recommend this book. It was a touching, sexy, suspenseful yet an emotional read and I adored it. It’s definitely going on my favorites list for this year.

So far Cash is my favorite. =D
I can understand that. Hemi was right up there for me, I must say.
I don’t have a favorite yet. My bestie is a HUGE Leighton fan and we’re big supporters on our blog. I’m a bit of print freak and I would LOVE to meet my next new book boyfriend in one or ALL of these ridiculously popular titles- and maybe even gift a one or two…;)
